
List of Student Organizations

AIAS
The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) is an independent, non-profit and student-run organization that is more than just a club. This grassroots association is a cooperative between thousands of students (of all ages and academic degrees) committed to helping each other. It provides a sense of community and a forum to share differing views. That AIAS is also a professional organization that is the official voice of architecture students.
IDSA
The Industrial Designers of America (IDSA) is the voice of the industrial design profession, advancing the quality and positive impact of design. IDSA’s mission is threefold:
- Lead the profession by expanding our horizons, connectivity and influence, and our service to members
- Inspire design quality and responsibility through professional development and education
- Elevate the business of design and improve our industry’s value
IDEAS Student Chapter
Interior Designers for Education and Sustainability (IDEAS) is a student organization bringing together the benefits of two professional organizations – ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) and IIDA (International Interior Design Association) – to give interior design students an opportunity for professional contacts with the industry and profession. Furthermore, the group focuses on increasing awareness of sustainability in the built environment. The group also works closely with the Interior Design Advisory Board for Virginia Tech.
Because of our relationship with these three organizations, we provide many benefits to our members, including design trips, firm tours, speakers and connections for future careers. Our members work together to help each other with portfolio building workshops, student mentoring and internship searches.
NOMAS
The National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) mission is to champion diversity within the design professions by promoting excellence, community engagement, and professional development of its members.
ASLA Student Chapter at VT
The student chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) at Virginia Tech hosts activities that advance education and skill in the art of landscape architecture. Members are encouraged to participate in the affairs of the national ASLA and the Virginia Chapter, to communicate with other student chapters, and to ally themselves in common purposes through the national organization.
Alpha Rho Chi
Alpha Rho Chi (APX) is a national professional fraternity for architecture and the allied arts, open to any undergraduate interested in architecture and related design majors.
Sigma Lambda Alpha
Members of Sigma Lambda Alpha (SLA), the national honor society for students of landscape architecture, are obligated to nourish, recognize, and reward scholarship in all ways possible. Chapter activities promote the high ideals in professional education and assist the worthy endeavors of landscape architecture through service to the school, the program and to students.
Design for America
Design for America (DFA) is a nation-wide network of interdisciplinary student led-studios creating local and social impact though the power of the problem solving design process.
Habitat for Humanity – Virginia Tech Campus Chapter
