Interior Design Student Gold Medal Winner in National Design Competition
Laura Valentine, a senior in the Interior Design Program, is the 2007 Gold Medal Winner in the Odegard Rug Design Competition. She will receive her award in New York City on June 28th at the award ceremony. She will receive $2,500, a 6’×9’ hand knotted rug of her design, and 5% royalties on sales of the rug with 3 years of guaranteed production. This is the second year in a row that interior design students have won first place in a national design competition and three years in a row that we have had competition winners.
The student winners of the three top prizes were invited to stay at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC for two nights to enable them to attend the Awards Ceremony, courtesy of Odegard Inc. Odegard will also pay for their round trip airfare. 931 eligible submissions were received from students in 90 schools in 37 states and six countries. After the Award Ceremony, in June, Odegard intends to publish a selection of competition entries – including all award-winners and honorable mentions
Mariana Gonzalez, a junior, was asked for permission for her rug to be produced. She agreed and will be paid $500 and she will earn a 5% royalty for every rug sold.
