2018 PARK(ing) Day on Main Campus

LAR students transformed two of the metered parking spots on campus into a public park as part of annual PARK(ing) Day event.

“The mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat…” – Parking Day Website

The process started three weeks ago with a cross-grade studio charrette to brainstorm some design ideas and the ASLA VT Chapter took those ideas and formulated a design and plan to execute it with the help of the Professional Practice in Landscape Architecture Class. The park provided a space for students on their way to and from campus or locals grabbing lunch on College Ave to step into a tiny park for a few minutes, to escape the sun under custom-made shade structures and to pot their own seed to grow into a beautiful plant!
