Land Planning and Design studio went to project sites in Virginia Beach

Students in Mintai Kim’s Land Planning and Design studio went to project sites in Virginia Beach on September 23 and 24. VT alum Billy Almond, Virginia Beach planner PJ Scully, and staff including Shereen Hughes, Skip Stiles, and Ross Weaver from Wetlands Watch all facilitated the visit. Students learned how sea-level rise impacts the environment.

While visiting the sites, VT LAR students had an opportunity to speak to Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ Environmental Studies students. The coordinator of the Environmental Studies Program, Christopher Freeman sent a message saying the VT students had a great impact on the high school students. “Many parents said that their child now wants to be a landscape architect (after hearing the VT LAR students presentation)!” sums up the success of the student presentation.
