In Memoriam: J. Thomas Regan

It is with great sadness that we share with you that former faculty member Tom Regan passed away at his home on Cape Cod, Massachusetts on Thursday, March 5th. Prof. Regan was instrumental in the formation of the architecture program from 1967 until 1984. He was a graduate of Auburn University and the Architectural Association (AA) in London.
While at Virginia Tech in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, he served as Professor, Chair of the Foundation Program, Assistant Dean, and Director of the Washington-Alexandria Center.
After leaving Virginia Tech, he became the Founding Dean of the School of Architecture at the University of Miami, Dean of the College of Design at North Carolina State University, Dean of the College of Architecture, Design and Construction at Auburn University, and Dean of the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University.
Tom’s leadership, teaching, and camaraderie framed his persona. He will always be remembered as a mentor, colleague, and friend to many of us in the College and to thousands of alumni that he taught and influenced.
An interview with Tom that was recorded prior to the College’s 50th anniversary will be presented in the lobby of Cowgill Hall.
