Ed Dorsa Honored with Emeritus Status

The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors has conferred on Prof. Ed Dorsa the title of Associate Professor Emeritus. The emeritus designation honors retired faculty members who have given exemplary service to the university.

Dorsa joined the Virginia Tech faculty in 1998, as part of the newly-established Industrial Design program. He served as Assistant Director of the School of Architecture + Design from 2009 until 2011, and he served as Chair of the Industrial Design program from 2011 until his recent retirement.

Dorsa has served as vice president of education for the Industrial Designers Society of America and as an accreditation commissioner for the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. He was named one of the “40 most admired design educators” by DesignIntelligence in 2006.

Dorsa was honored with the College of Architecture and Urban Studies’ Lifetime Contribution Award in 2017. He received the 2012 XCaliber Award, given to an interdisciplinary team for their use of technology in advancing student success. Dorsa is also the recipient of the School of Architecture + Design’s 2009 Excellence in Studio Teaching Award, the 2006 College of Architecture and Urban Studies Award for Excellence in Outreach, and the 2005-06 University Certificate of Teaching Excellence.
