design/buildLAB Receives People’s Choice Award in 2015 AZ Awards Program

The Sharon Fieldhouse in Clifton Forge, VA, designed and built by 3rd-year architecture students in the 2013-14 design/buildLAB, led by Keith and Marie Zawistowski, has been named the winner of the People’s Choice Award in the Student A+ Award category in the annual AZ Awards program, an international competition honoring excellence in design and architecture, sponsored by AZURE, Canada’s leading contemporary architecture and design magazine.

2013-14 design/buildLAB student team members include Landon Williams, Molly Vaughan, Mitchell August, Ryan Myers, Julia Vasquez, Xiao Fu, Ellie Burns, Forrest Bibeau, Mykayla Fernandes, Kellen McGinley, John Iaconis, Chanel Carter-Harris, Barbara Dior, Nancy Redenius, and Tom Powers.

The jury — architect Winka Dubbeldam of Archi-Tectonics, architect Brendan MacFarlane of Jakob + MacFarlane, designer Anwar Mekhayech of the Design Agency, landscape architect Janet Rosenberg of Janet Rosenberg & Studio, and designer Philippe Malouin — selected 66 finalists for the fifth annual AZ Awards from among 720 entries from 43 countries.
