Logo Design Contest

The winning logo of the design contest will be used to establish the conference’s visual identity and highlight the conference theme: Transforming the Discussion: breaking the landscape architecture chrysalis.

General idea of CELA

The Landscape Architecture Program at Virginia Tech will host CELA’s annual conference in March 2018. 450 delegates from across the US and around the world are expected to attend. CELA Conferences bring together faculty, students and practitioners from universities and institutions around the globe. Conference participants engage in discussions and presentations about the latest research and debate different perspectives of issues involving the landscape.

Specific to CELA ’18

The CELA ’18 conference intends to challenge conventions, habits of mind, and those deeply held meanings that guide thinking about social, political, and environmental issues. Conference presenters and participants will enter into discussions and debates intended to challenge contemporary norms, transform our discussions and actions, and break our landscape architecture chrysalis.


The logo design should relate to the conference theme.

Logo should include:
1. The name of the meeting and the date: CELA 2018
2. The location: VIRGINIA TECH or VT
3. The theme of the conference: Transforming the Discussion

Submissions should demonstrate use as a letterhead, postcard, and a banner.

The logo will be used on all conference materials. These may include T-shirts, banners, a letterhead, digital and print documents, and other conference swag.


The contest is open to everyone. There is no participation fee. Prizes will be awarded per entry.
Selection and Prize Members of the conference committee will select winning entries. Winners will be notified by email, and announced on the conference website and other social media platforms. In addition to recognition:
1st prize: $250
2nd prize: $100
3rd prize: $50


Entries to be submitted online as a single high resolution PDF. If a non-standard font is used, participants must provide the font. Electronic submissions must be uploaded to the CELA18 website ( by Sunday, January 15, 2017 at midnight EST (Eastern Standard Time). Decisions will be made by February 1, 2017.
