Architecture + Design Students and Faculty Provide Community Service in Dominican Republic

Jack Davis, Dean of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, Dean Bork, Assoc. Professor of Landscape Architecture, Bill Galloway, Assoc. Professor of Architecture, Landscape Architecture students Ashley Parsons, Autumn Visconti, and Kent Hipp, and Architecture students Katie Huber, Sadia Siddiqi, and Jeff Stolz, along with a group of Virginia Tech alumni and representatives of Peacework, spent their spring break (2009) in the Dominican Republic building a playground for the Verón Primary School. The playground was designed by landscape architecture and architecture students working with Bork and Galloway during the fall semester of 2008. The group is developing future plans to possibly return to the Dominican Republic to construct an outdoor pavilion for the school, as well as for use by the Verón Health Clinic across the street.
