Shawn Wang is an adjunct instructor of architecture at Virginia Tech’s School of Architecture + Design. He holds a Master’s degree in Advanced Architecture and Design from Columbia University, and a Bachelor degree of Architecture along with a minor in industrial design from Virginia Tech.

Before joining the School of Architecture + Design at Virginia Tech Shawn practiced at HOK’s Washington D.C. office. His experience in practice is both diverse in type and scale such as cultural, institutional, healthcare, and city planning projects.

Shawn’s academic pursuits lie at the intersection of the physical and digital world. He believes parametric design and machine-aided manufacturing are central to the future for architecture is the future for architecture and industrial design. His students are engaged in small scale personalized manufacturing utilizing digital modeling and 3D printing technologies while maintaining the irreplaceable traditional design practice with pen and paper.
