Vern Ferguson is one of three professional academic advisors in the School of Architecture and School of Design. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Department of Political Science at Virginia Tech. His research includes mass political violence, genocide, and the challenges of populism and extreme nationalism in Swedish parliamentary elections.

In 2020 Vern was awarded the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Academic Advising, the highest award for professional academic advisors at Virginia Tech.

In addition to working full time as an academic advisor, Vern is the Faculty Advisor for the national honor fraternity Phi Sigma Pi. He is also an adjunct instructor in the Department of Political Science at Virginia Tech for the course “Introduction to Comparative Government and Politics.
