As an architect, urban designer, and certified planner, Scott Archer has developed broad expertise in planning for cities and campuses, as well as experience designing cultural, civic, and institutional buildings. Constantly telescoping between scales as both an architect and urban designer has contributed to his holistic understanding of design and the built environment. His belief that design can — and should — play a key role in creating equitable and livable cities drives his passion for his work. The interaction between public policy, community engagement, and the ultimate physical manifestation of the city is the center of his professional work, his commitment to academia, and his ongoing community service.

In his current position as a senior associate of Beyer Blinder Belle Architects and Planners (BBB), Scott has contributed to several significant projects in Washington, DC and around the world, ranging from inclusive city planning, comprehensive design for cultural institutions, and technical architectural design for civic facilities. Alongside his work at BBB, Scott seeks to amplify a civic spirit through his volunteering with the American Institute of Architects (AIA), including leadership in the AIA|DC Urban Design Committee, selection as a scholar in the 2021 AIA|DC Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program, and appointment to the 2022 AIA National Regional and Urban Design Knowledge Community Leadership Group. Scott and his work have received several awards, including the 2021 AIA|DC Emerging Architect Award and the 2022 DCCEAS Young Architect of the Year Award.

Since 2015, Scott has taught WAAC interdisciplinary design studios and urban design research seminars for students of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, and city planning. He approaches teaching with the same participatory ethos as his professional work, serving as a collaborator who learns and explores with students, while also sharing personal and professional experiences and tools to aid in their pursuits.
