Kathryn Clarke Albright currently serves as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design at Virginia Tech. She previously served as the Chair of the Foundation Program in the School of Architecture + Design. She has taught various levels of undergraduate students; she currently works with the Chicago Studio as an option in the 4th-year of the architecture program and teaches a 1st-year design lab in the fall and spring semesters. Her research focuses on the multiple scales of the urban condition that includes work with the Blacksburg Farmers Market.

In 2007 she received the College of Architecture & Urban Studies Excellence in Outreach Award, proceeded by the 2005 University’s Excellence in Teaching Award, the 2000 College of Architecture & Urban Studies’ Certificate for Teaching Excellence and the 1998 Community Design Assistance Center’s Certificate for Outstanding Public Service. Chicago Studio was awarded a 2005 NCARB Prize for creative integration of architectural education and practice in the academy.

From 1986 to 1993 she practiced in San Francisco as a partner with Solomon, Inc. focusing on urban design and various scales of residential projects. In 1994 she received a Master of Design Studies from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. From 1995 to 2000 Dunay + Albright Architects completed several local projects including the Design Guidelines for Blacksburg’s Downtown Historic District. In 2001 she founded Friends of the Farmers Market in Blacksburg, Virginia and led the efforts to Market Square Park and five timber-framed pavilions completed in 2009.
