Professor Weiner has been a member of the Architecture faculty at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University since 1987 and has taught design studios and theory seminars at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

He has served in a variety of academic administrative positions. Prior to coming to Virginia Tech he practiced architecture in New York City for a number of notable firms including Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum and Robert A. M. Stern from 1980 to 1986. He also served as an assistant to the internationally known architectural historian and critic Professor Kenneth Frampton for research on the work of the Danish architect Jørn Utzon.

He received his undergraduate degree in architecture from Tulane University (1980) and graduate degree in architecture from Columbia University (1987). He has served as Co-Chair of the Graduate Programs in Architecture (1996-1997), served as Head of the Department of Architecture (1997-2003) and was the founding Interim Director of the School of Architecture + Design (2003) at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Professor Weiner’s published research is in the area of architectural theory, the relationship between architecture and philosophy and on architectural education. In 2005 he was the recipient of the EAAE Prize 2003-2005.
