The “Raumplan” and has there been one after Adolf Loos?

Dr. Ladislav Jackson

Please join us for a special history and theory lecture presented by the School of Architecture + Design on Friday, February 19th at 12 noon (ET). We will be joined by Dr. Ladislav Jackson, an art and architecture historian at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno University of Technology.

Dr. Jackson will share his research on the architecture of Adolf Loos and the concept of “Raumplan,” which is the way that Loos organized interior spaces. Dr. Jackson will discuss how Loos developed this idea, he reconciled its complexity with the rationalizing tendencies of modernism. He will then show the “raumplan” remained in circulation and was used or abused by his students.
