Permanence Symposium

In March 1996, the Department of Architecture at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University held a symposium on the subject of permanence. The symposium consisted of three primary speakers in addition to three commentators from the disciplines of art, architecture, and philosophy.

This was the first in a series of symposia which will occur biannually. Future symposia will focus on other aspects of time, such as memory, beginning, and recurrence, and will be expanded to include the disciplines of religion and science.
