The Corner: A Marker of the New, A Memory of the Past — Stories from the Study
In May of 2016, Nicholas Coates (B.Arch. 2015) set out to conduct a worldwide topic of study titled, “The Corner: A Marker of the New, A Memory of the Past” as part of the 2015 SOM Prize in Architecture, Design, and Urban Design. Through this study, travel-based research encompassing two continents, nine countries, 39,000 miles, and 159 days was undertaken to observe and dissect the moments of the corner leading to the following question: how does an architect direct a beautiful turn? In his lecture, Nick will be sharing stories from his journeys though many different cultures, landscapes, and built environments chronicling his post graduate time spent around the world.
