Mira Henry and Matthew Au, CURRENT INTERESTS – Lecture

New Modes

Current Interests asks questions about the norms we use in building using vernacular expressions of skin, privacy, and character with respect. While often slouched or casually excessive in its layers and finishes, their work carefully tunes design to existing political, environmental, and cultural conditions.

Mira Henry is a co-principal of the collaborative architectural design practice Current Interests and is design faculty at SCI-Arc. Henry’s built work is grounded in notions of material specificity, color relationships, assembly details, and crritical cultural thinking. Her formal research and writing focus on architecture, race, and materiality.

Matthew Au is the other co-principal of Current Interests. Matthew’s academic work examines the spaces and tools of production, and the lines of communication that connect the worlds of design and building. His current work focuses on the construction of technical images.
