Doctoring as a Designer – Lynde Lutzow
Dr. Lynde Lutzow is a general surgery resident at Temple University Hospital. She is also a formally trained industrial and interaction designer (SCAD ’07) and before embarking on a surgical career she worked in the medical device development and healthcare service industry. Her work informed the development of all classes of medical devices and healthcare services for clients like Kimberly-Clark, Covidien, Smith+Nephew, and CVS. She has been a guest lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Massachusetts College of Art & Design, and the Open Style Lab program. Dr. Lutzow is interested in the intersection of medicine, design and human behavior and will discuss a day-in-the-life of a typical clinician, highlighting the abundant obstacles and design opportunities they encounter while delivering care to surgical patients.
