9:00AM — Cowgill Lobby
Borrowing its title from Chester W. Bain's 1967 study of the municipal structure of Virginia, this exhibition documents Andrew Marshall's travels to small towns across the state to investigate the physical typology of its urban form. Through the view of architectural form as an extension of society's collective consciousness, the project seeks to read urban and building scale patterns to foster the critical practices to interpret and improve the civic realm. Formal analysis as well as the stories of individual people and encounters begins to unveil how these structures serve as a backdrop for our lives as citizens and our work as designers.
Andrew Marshall will lecture on his research on Thurs., Sept. 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm in Hancock 100 (more info…).
