Interested in joining AAD? Your first step is to apply for admission.

If you're interested in joining the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design your first step is to apply for admission to Virginia Tech.

All processes related to undergraduate admissions at the university are handled through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. On their site, you can find more information on general requirements, timelines, checklists, and the application process.

Admission is competitive, so make sure you pay careful attention to dates, deadlines, and other requirements. If you're interested in an AAD major, make sure you list this program as your first choice when you apply.

Prospective Transfer Students

AAD welcomes transfer students to the following majors: Art History, Cinema, Creative Technologies, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Music, Studio Art, and Theatre Arts.

We do not accept transfer students to the Architecture or Industrial Design programs due to limited space in these competitive programs.

Virginia Tech considers you to be a transfer applicant if you've attempted 12 or more credit hours at another college or university at any time following your high school graduation. If you're interested in completing your degree at Virginia Tech, make sure you're up to speed on requirements and policies for prospective transfer students.

Follow the VT Admissions Transfer Roadmaps to be sure you’re pursuing the required courses for entry to our majors.

Check out the Transfer Guide from the University Registrar, which provides helpful information on transferable courses and transfer requirements.

Choosing a Major

The right major can make all the difference. AAD has 12 different majors across four schools to choose from. Learn more about AAD programs to find your niche – and your home away from home at Virginia Tech.

Some AAD majors in the School of Architecture, School of Visual Arts, School of Performing Arts, and School of Design are restricted, meaning enrollment numbers are limited due to space constraints in our studios and design labs.

Unsure of which major you’d like to pursue? Consider Explore AAD, a unique major which serves as a gateway to the college’s different degree programs. You’ll take classes across the college while exploring and preparing to transition to an AAD major.

Have questions, or need help choosing a major? Contact AAD director of academic advising Rob Jacks at rjacks@vt.edu. You may also want to speak to one of our AAD Ambassadors to learn more about a degree program from a student's perspective.
